let my words be few

Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your heart
to utter anything before God.
God is in heaven
and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.
Ecclesiastes 5:2

Wow! This scripture made me question myself, how do I speak? Are my words seasoned with kindness? Am I quick to speak? Do I count the cost of my words? My mouth is one of those areas that right when I think you have it under control, it goes off and blurts out the most insane words... it's called foot in mouth disease! I suffer from it... severely! If you ever hear me say anything that makes sense, know that it wasn't me... any wisdom, any kind word, anything positive that flows from me is of God.

So for those of you, who like myself, take one foot out only to insert the other, these verses are for you. (these verses are 4x4's that God has used in my life to convict and encourage me). I pray they may encourage you:

Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? James 3:9-11

In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. Proverbs 10:19

A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. Proverbs 25:11

Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls. Proverbs 25:28

When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. Proverbs 31:26

As dead flies cause even a bottle of perfume to stink, so a little foolishness spoils great wisdom and honor. Ecclesiastes 10:1

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:41

Then Judas and Silas, both being prophets, spoke at length to the believers, encouraging and strengthening their faith. Acts 15:32

Then the messenger who had gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Now listen, the words of the prophets with one accord encourage the king. Therefore please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak encouragement.” 2 Chronicles 18:12

Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.  Proverbs 17:28

God Bless YOU!
