Lyrical Friday - Morning Star

Yes today is Saturday but I began this post yesterday so Lyrical Friday (Saturday) it is!

This week I experienced one of the coolest flashbacks of the Jesus Movement: Malcolm Wild and Alwyn Wall reunited for a concert at Calvary Chapel Merrit Isalnd and then rocked it at my home church Wednesday night. Morning Star was one of the songs that I could not stop singing and playing in my head. I found them on iTunes (HERE) and have been listening to them since.

Though this song is relevant to us today considering it was written back in the 70s. Both you and I were born into a world of sin and darkness, and naturally we will experience dark seasons in our earthly life. So to have a song that reminds us that Jesus is light and will get us through our darkest hour is completely relevant.

If you are caught in a dark season, feel lost or abandon, I pray you find shelter in the truth of these lyrics. Stop searching avenues for help and start seeking Jesus who is your bright and Morning star who will guide you step by step. He will give you a song that will last you through the day, through the weeks and years and into eternity.

You light a lamp for me. The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness. Psalm 18:28
He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; He snapped their chains Psalm 107:14
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. Psalm 139:12

-
Morning Star
Now I know who You are
Why did I look so far
When You are who You say You are
And I'm loving You

Morning Star-shine
I'm so glad that You're mine
You're so easy to find
Even for the very blind
Oh, I'm loving You, loving You
Morning Star

When things go wrong
And I'm not strong enough to carry on
You give me a song in my morning
A song to last me through the day
A song to light my way
Up to the Morning Start
You're lovely, You're the Morning Star

And sometimes I'm lonely, I'm really down and out
But I didn't have to call Your name out loud
I just whispered and to my side You came
And that's love - woo - that's love
I know that it's love
And I'm loving You, loving You lovely

Loving You, loving You lovely
Loving You, loving You lovely
Ooo -- I'm loving You Morning Star

email: pressing on to know God

I was checking my email at work, when one unread email caught my attention. I work for a faith based company and we receive daily emails with a verse, a Christian thought or an encouraging quote titled Spiritual RX. However, the title of this email read: Pressing On To Know God. For sure I opened it and read it. I am so glad that I did. Below I have copied the email for you and pray that you would also press on to know God is a mighty way this year.

Pressing On

By Chaplain Roy Gaton, DMin., BCC

Let us press on to know the Lord; for as certain as the break of dawn He comes to know us. – Hoseas 6:3

Pressing on to know the Lord. What a New Year’s resolution! At the beginning of each new year, one of the most common activities for everyone is making a list of New Year’s resolutions. Usually at the top of the list is exercising more, losing weight, taking a vacation, spending more time with family. But how about this one: Pressing on to know God. That means more than a mere acknowledgment of a higher power. It means an ever-deepening acquaintance with him.

As surely as the day follows night, the awareness that God exists will dawn on every soul who wholeheartedly “feels after him” (Acts 17:27). But if one goes no further, this realization fades quickly into nothingness.

On the other hand, if we are earnest, we will not be content with the mere knowledge that God exists. In other words, the more we know God, the more we want to get to know him. Having encountered God, having learned to appreciate his character, we long to know him better. We look forward with eagerness to times of communion with him.

For most people, there is no better time for these encounters than first thing in the morning, after a good night’s sleep. It is then that the mind is the clearest and least encumbered by the cares of our everyday lives. For me, this is a very special time at the beginning of the day when I “get to know” my God more.

I would like to share with you a quote that has been very important in my life as a pastor, husband, father, and man.

“Consecrate yourself to God in the morning; make this your very first work. Let your prayer be, take me O Lord as wholly thine. I lay all my plans at thy feet. Use me today in thy service. Abide with me, and let all my work be wrought in thee. This is a daily matter. Each morning consecrate yourself to God for that day. Surrender all your plans to Him, to be carried out or given up as his providence shall indicate. Thus day by day you may be giving your life into the hands of God, and thus your life will be molded more and more after the life of Christ.”—Ellen G. White, Steps to Christ.

As you commune with God morning by morning throughout this year, may your knowledge of him be profound, intimate, and loving.

Lyrical Friday - Called Me Higher

Happy Friday!
This past Wednesday I drove to Fort Lauderdale, Fl to see All Sons & Daughters. Wow, what a worship experience. It was there that I really let the lyrics of this song settle in my heart, and they have changed me. Because I don't have much time, I will let them share about Called Me Higher.

Called Me Higher, All Sons and Daughters

  • I could just sit
  • I could just sit and wait for all your goodness
  • Hope to feel your presence
  • And I could just stay
  • I could just stay right where I am and hope to feel you
  • Hope to feel something again
  • And I could hold on
  • I could hold on to who I am and never let You change me from the inside
  • And I could be safe
  • I could be safe here in Your arms and never leave home
  • Never let these walls down
  • But you have called me higher
  • You have called me deeper
  • And I will go where you will lead me Lord
  • You have called me higher
  • You have called me deeper
  • And I will go where you lead me Lord
  • Where you lead me
  • Where you lead me Lord
  • And I will be Yours
  • I will be Yours for all my life
  • So let Your mercy light the path before me

  • follow me
