in a few words...

ok, seriously... in a few words! I don't know what few words means, but I will try.

This weekend was sweet. Not just 'sweet' in the sense that it was good but 'sweet' in the sense that it was at best, in my limited human knowledge, Heaven on Earth. Jose and Belkis, the Youth Pastor and his wife, planned a weekend retreat with the youth leaders. The men went to a ranch while the ladies spent a beautiful Miami weekend at the beach.

Three scriptures come to mind:
As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. -Proverbs 27:17

A friend loves at all times, and a sister is born for adversity. -Proverbs 17:17

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. for if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. -Eccelsiastes 4:9-10

This weekend I was able to experience a sweet fellowship, not that I don't always but spending 24-7 was different. It was awesome to spend a weekend with the women who I serve alongside, to know them for who they are apart from the four walls of the church. We shared our hearts and views on different topics, where God has us and shared some crazy funny stories. Everyone was assigned to prepare a devotional (no specific theme) to share. It was increadibly sweet to witness how God prepared our hearts and though different parts of scriptures where read the theme of overall was pretty much the same: unwavering faith & full obedience. I can go on, but this is an attempt to share in few words, lol.

For You reading this post who serves in any ministry, I encourage you, challenge you to plan something similar, maybe a potluck of some sort and get to know those you serve with. Spend time in the word together aside from the "Sunday" fellowship. A threefold cord is not easily broke- there is power in unity.
God Bless YOU!

Here are a few pictures from this weekend:
I woke up to this beautiful sunrise, sat at the balcony and had a wonderful time with Jesus.

Beautiful view

We walked down the boardwalk. I love this picture.

Most of the wonderful woman I serve with.

How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! -Psalm 133:1

Lyrical Friday - Lord of Lords

Happy Friday!
This week's song has become the song of my heart. I promised you more songs from Brooke Fraser and Lord of Lords is one of them. She is a gifted writer with an anointed voice. The lyrics are so beatiful. Before you hear the song I would like for you to read the words, truly meditate on them and allow them to penetrate your heart.

Lord of Lords, Brooke Fraser
Beholding Your beauty
Is all that I long for
To worship You Jesus
Is my sole desire
For this very heart
You have shaped for your pleasure
Purposed to lift Your Name higher

Here in surrender
In pure adoration
I enter Your courts
With an offering of praise
I am Your servant
Come to bring You glory
As is fit for the work of Your hands

[Chorus 1:]
Now unto the Lamb
Who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
All of creation resounds with the song
Worship and praise Him
The Lord of lords

Spirit now living
And dwelling within me
Keep my eyes fixed
Ever on Jesus' face
Let not the things of this world
Ever sway me
I'll run 'til I finish the race

[Chorus 2:]
Now unto the Lamb
Who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
All of eternity echoes the song
Worship and praise Him
The Lord of lords

Holy Lord
You are holy
Jesus Christ
Is the Lord

[Chorus 3:]
Now unto the Lamb
Who sits on the throne
Be glory and honour and praise
Call all the sinners to join in the song
Worship and praise Him
The Lord of lords

(please turn off the music player on the side bar)

In her book, The Power of a Praying Woman , Stormie Omartian proposes a question that I have always gone back to (and I am paraphrasing), "Is Jesus lord over every area of your life or only the areas you allow Him to lord over?"  So many times we limit God and only surrender parts of us. I encourage you to surrender all. I pray that God may be Lord over every area of your life- even that area that you don't want to surrender.

"...for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”
Revelation 17:14

my heart cries out

"My heart cries out over Moab..." Isaiah 15:5

Hi my Friend.

As I have shared with you a few post back, I am reading the book of Isaiah. Yesterday as I read this verse, I paused and meditated on them. “My heart cries out for Moab…” The intensity of these words provoked me to search my own heart and question myself. Do I cry out for those whom I despise? When someone I am not particularly fond of is hurting, do I cry out for them? Or even with them? Am I allowing compassion, long suffering and kindness to have its way in me and through me?

In our lives there will be people who will curse the name of the Lord; will you cry out for them? There may be people in your life today who you disagree with their lifestyle; will you cry out for them? Jesus himself said that we will be hated and persecuted; will you cry out for those who hate and persecute you? You may have been hurt in the past (that person will be judged before the throne of God for that) and wounded deeply; will you cry out to God for that person?

This morning I read Romans 12:14-15:
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

I love this scripture, especially the part that encourages us to mourn with those who mourn. This weekend God vividly painted a beautiful picture of this verse. Saturday was a day of chaos for my family. As I was at church one of my friends called out my name. I turned around and as a soon as I saw her I began to sob uncontrollably. As I walked towards her, it was as if I was walking into the arms of Jesus. [Here comes the beautiful picture] She held me as I cried and I she was crying with me. I could not understand why she was crying. It wasn’t her family that was going through a storm of trials. This verse came to mind, “mourn with those who mourn.” Jesus may I be a woman who mourns with those who mourn.

“My heart cries out for Moab…”
Is there someone around you that is going through a trial, a loss, a time of confusion or is simply being broken before the Lord… cry with them, pray with them and may the God of comfort speak words of life through you.

I pray that we would be a people who are compassionate, abounding in love and crying out for everyone- enemies included.

game changers

And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. Many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.

When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”  Mark 2:1-5

Last Friday in Uth Nation we studied this passage in a teaching titled Game Changers. This story has strengthened my faith. It wasn't compassion for this crippled man that moved Jesus, but rather it was the faith of the paralytic man's friends. I don't know about you, but as for me, I would love for the lives around me to be transformed by God for God and my faith being the crutch used to get that life saved.

We really don't know if these four men were even friends of the paralytic man, but one this is for sure, these men did whatever they could to get him to Jesus. These men knew and believed that Jesus could do something for this man. How many family members, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, strangers, friends or family members of friends that we know are in need of Jesus? What are we doing to get them to Him?

May our prayers be prayers of mountain moving faith, especially when praying for someone's soul. There is no one that can escape the hope of God. I'm sure that many in Capernaum saw this lame man and thought that nothing could be done for him, that he was hopeless, yet four men chose to believe that there was still hope for him, and look, His sins were forgiven. May we see people as Jesus sees them. May we never pass the opportunity of carrying someone to Jesus, who can forgive their sins and give them abundant life. We can be the game changer to someone, whether through prayer or in leading them to Jesus.

"...above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one." Ephesians 6:16

God Bless YOU!

HEAL Journey - New Beginning

Hi Everyone.
This morning was the first HEAL Journey meeting with six girls from Uth Nation. We opened up with Psalm 139 and discussed what this Psalm spoke to us. I shared with them my testimony over bagels and tea. It was a very sweet time. I prepared goodie bags for each girl. Each bag contained: Book- for their Heal Journey, Candle- because we are the aroma of Christ and the light of the world, Lip Gloss- we reflect God's beauty, Loli Pop- to keep us sweet for and like Jesus, Greeting Cards- to give the gift of kind words and encouragement like we recieve from God.

Each girl has an accountability partner for the next two weeks. Also, each one has a secret prayer warrior (basically, a mystery woman at church is praying for them and will be sending them a card each week). Likewise, the girls will be praying for their prayer warriors and sending them a card with me, the messenger. They will meet eachother at the end of our study.

Keep this discipleship group in prayer. We will meet every other Saturday. I'll keep you posted each time we meet.

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You. ~Psalm 139:17-18

Lyrical Friday - Lord You're Beautiful

Keith Green wrote 'Lord You're Beautiful' and this is today's song. At a loss for words to describe this hymm all I can do is encourage you to listen and meditate on these lyrics. I pray that as you sit at the feet of these words, may they sink deep into your heart and become more than a song, more than a hymm. May this song become the praise of your lips and prayer of your heart.

Lord You're Beautiful, Jesus Culture
(please turn off the music player on the sidebar)

Oh Lord, you're beautiful,
Your face is all I seek,
For when your eyes are on this child,
Your grace abounds to me.

I want to take your word and shine it all around.
But first help me just to live it Lord.
And when I'm doing well, help me to never seek a crown.
For my reward is giving glory to you.

Oh Lord, please light the fire,
That once burned bright and clear.
Replace the lamp of my first love,
That burns with Holy fear.

Oh Lord, you're beautiful,
Your face is all I seek,
For when your eyes are on this child,
Your grace abounds to me.

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.
Psalm 63:3-5

the body style

Hi Everyone!
I've been reading "The Body Style: The Church as described by Jesus" written by Gayle Erwin. This is my night time book to read before heading off to lala land. Last night I read a few paragraphs that changed my whole perspective on one of my life verses... yes, I have a few, lol, don't judge me! It may seem long, but so worth it.

Chapter: Find Your Life
Matthew 16:24, Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."

This serving statement of Jesus also reveals a highly misunderstood yet extremely straightforward requirement for the Kingdom of God- self denial. We reword this mandate by stating, "Let man deny himself something." The addition of something makes this requirement far less than what Jesus said. Indeed, I find it easy to deny myself some thing. In fact, we easily institutionalize this practice by designating a certain time of the year to play this little game. Lent makes us feel religious but totally misses the point. While self denial may include some things, it brings me face to face with something far more serious.

The most ungodlike, Jesus oppposing trait I carry is my self centeredness. My greed and lust (characteristics of my selfish being) rule until I invite the Creator to rule my life. Whe He rules, my nature gradually changes to others-centered thinking. If I simply deny myself something, I escape without denying my self. It is precisely that lost self that Jesus came to rescue.

This brings up a most interesting aberriation that exists in the church world. When governments or other counting bodies attempt to divide the world into different religious groups, Christian becomes anyone who is not Muslim or Jewish or Hindu or Buddhist. [skipping a few sentences] Being American or Methodist or Catholic or Baptist- make the list as long as you want- does not make me Christian. Policticians form broad lists of various groups as the Christian world, but these lists lack something most important- the category does not necessarily denote a relationship with Jesus.

Jesus made two more statements that provide foundation stones in this same sentence: Take up your cross and follow me. Many things, often humorous- such as husbands and halitosis- pile into this sack we call the cross. Amost anything we consider miserable from spouse to job to inescapable situations we tend to call our cross. Keep in mind that when Jesus made this statement to the diciples, he had not yet been to the cross. No such connotations existed.

Whe Jesus said, take up your cross, an immediate image flooded the disciples' minds. Thousands of people had died on crosses by that time at the hands of the Romans. The hatred all Jews had for Romans meant that each person carried the realization that, in Roman terms, he was deserving of crucifixion. The concept of the cross also carried the ultimate reality of physical death. Consequently, this cross to be carried was a constant reminder of guilt (deserved) and death (physically inescapable).

In the face of guilt and death, what shall you do with your life? What goals and actions become worthwhile? With a gun to your head and permission to do your last deeds, what would they be? Jesus provides the answer, "follow me."

The statement, follow me, wonderfully simplifies my world. Following a person is so much simpler than following directions. Many people think Christianity is following a set of rules or principles. When I hear people say, "I try to live by Christian principles," I want to jump in and say, "Principles didn't die on the cross; a person did."

(almost done here.)

I can follow even when I don't understand the directions. Often, in my travels, I am in countries that use our alphabet and within a week, I have developed a traveler's understanding of signs and the language. However, I also travel to countries whose writings baffles me. The symbols look like someone with a mouth full of chocolate sneezed. How can I learn that or follow directions in such foreign scratchings? I tried once and finally gave up, calling a friend on the phone and saying, "I can't find you."
His question worsened my situation, "Where are you?"
"I don't know."
I wanted to say, "I am at the corner of WALK and DON'T WALK."
So he asked me what buildings I could see. When I described them, he responded, "I know where you are. Stay there. I will come and you can follow me home." Alriiiight! I can follow even when I don't understand the directions.

This is why even a child can be a Christian. We do not need a Ph.D to be a follower. All we need do is focus our eyes on Jesus himself and follow him.

The wonder of following Jesus is that more is demanded of us than any other system, yet we are the ones whose leader occupies us and actually meets the unmeetable requirements in us. Any other teaching is a reduction of the words of Jesus.

feed my starving children

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17

Hi Friends. Tonight I was blessed to serve alongside a wonderful organization, Feed My Starving Children. Check out their statement of faith. I went with a group of friends and together with an amazing group of volunteers packaged about 10,146 packages of: Rice, Extruded soy nuggets, Vitamins, minerals, vegetarian chicken flavoring and lastly Dehydrated potatoes and carrots. The boxes we filled are being taken tonight to the port of Miami and taken straight to Port au Prince, Haiti. It was an awesome time.

Hi highly recommend that you take a look at their website and prayfully consider partnering up with FMHC. I pray that you have not forgotten the people of Haiti. Continue to fervently pray for them, that they may taste and see that the Lord is good. Pray that they may experience the love of our amazing God- Father, Son & Spirit. Please pray for my friends Carlos, Eugenio and the team serving with them in Haiti this week. They arrived today. Prayer moves the hand that moves the world.

GOD BLESS YOU!!!
